  • Basic principles for centrifuge type selection
  • The principles for type selection of centrifuge are related to its applications, which are listed as follows.
     
    (1) The principles for type selection of centrifuge for dehydration process
    ① If the suspension contains higher concentration of solid phase and larger size of rigid or crystal particles, the filtration centrifuge shall be selected. If the particles are allowed to be broken, the horizontal scraper discharge centrifuge shall be selected. If the particles are not allowed to be broken, the horizontal piston push discharge centrifuge or the centrifugal discharge centrifuge shall be selected.
    ② If the suspension contains lower concentration of solid phase and small size of particles, or contains amorphous mycelium, the filtration centrifuge shall not be selected, because the particle size is so fine that materials leakage from screen is serious. If the fine screen is added, the dehydration performance shall decrease and the filter screen shall be blocked by the amorphous mycelium and solid particles containing oil. In view of this, the decanter centrifuge such as the scroll discharge decanter centrifuge or the three-column decanter centrifuge is better to be selected. If the particle size is very uneven, the screen is firstly used for filtering out course particles, and then the centrifuge is used for dewatering.
    ③ If the density difference of solid-liquid two-phases in suspension is small and the particle size is over 0.05mm, the filtration centrifuge shall be selected. When a large amount of materials need to be handled, the continuous type filtration centrifuge shall be selected.
     
    (2) The principles for type selection of centrifuge for clarification process
    ① If the media contains a large amount of liquid-phase and a small amount of solid-phase with small particle size (lower than 10μm), or contains amorphous mycelium, the scroll discharge decanter centrifuge, disk separator or tubular separator shall be selected. When solid-phase content is less than 1% and the particle size is less than 5μm, the disk type piston slag discharge separator shall be selected.
    ② If the fine particle size is about 0.5μm, the tubular separator shall be selected and the clarity of clarified liquid obtained is high. But the single centrifuge only can handle a small amount of materials. After separation, the solid residues are firmly attached to the inner of basket, so the machine needs taking apart for manually removing residues. And the tubular separator can not be used for continuous production.
    ③ If the fine particle size is about 0.5μm, the disk type piston slag discharge separator shall be selected and the clarity of clarified liquid obtained is high. After separation, the solid residues are firmly attached to the inner of basket. When these residues are stored up to a certain amount, the piston shall open automatically for partially slag discharge during continuous feed. But because the piston is instantly open during operation, not all residues can be discharged. After operating for a certain time, the materials feed should be stopped and the piston should be opened for longer time to discharge slag completely.
     
    (3) The principles for type selection of centrifuge for concentration process
    A small amount of solid phase in suspension will be enriched in concentration process.
    ① For the materials with large density difference of solid-liquid phase, the hydraulic cyclone shall be selected.
    ② For the materials with small density difference of solid-liquid phase, the disk nozzle slag discharge separator shall be selected.
    ③ The scroll discharge decanter centrifuge also is used for concentration process. Without the filter screen and nozzle, the materials shall not be blocked. The moisture content of materials discharged by scroll discharge decanter centrifuge is lower than that of disk nozzle slag discharge separator.
     
    (4) The principles for type selection of centrifuge for classification process
    ① Generally the scroll discharge decanter centrifuge shall be selected. Based on the density difference of solid-liquid phase and the particle size k, the proper separation factor and speed difference shall be selected. The particles with sizes greater thandk settle and are discharged from the solid phase. While the particles with sizes less than dk shall be left in the liquid phase and discharged with the liquid phase. Through the above process, the classification is completed. In order to avoid the particles with size lower than dk being mixed in the large particles and settling, the proper speed, slip and the position of feed pipe in the internal cylinder of the scroll conveyor need to be adjusted.
    ② If a small amount of materials are handled, the three-column decanter centrifuge shall be selected. And the proper separation factor needs to be adjusted so as to make classification for particles.
     
    (5) The principles for type selection of centrifuge for liquid-liquid or liquid-liquid-solid phase separation process
    The liquid-liquid or liquid-liquid-solid phase separation refers to the separation of two or even more kinds of immiscible materials. The separation principle is based on density difference, for example, food oil-water separation, oil-water-solid separation and purification for fuel oil and lubricating oil.
    ① When a small amount of liquid-liquid or liquid-liquid-solid phase media need to be handled, the tubular separator shall be selected. When a large amount of liquid-liquid or liquid-liquid-solid phase media need to be handled, the manual disk type slag discharge separator or piston slag discharge separator shall be selected.
    ② Due to different contents of liquid-liquid two-phases contents (for example, the light liquid phase A is more and the heavy liquid phase B is less, or the light liquid phase A is less and the heavy liquid phase B is more), the tubular separator and the disk separator may be selected and adjusted by the adjustment ring.
